Only Pre-K thru 5th grade is available here: Christian environment, very friendly office staff, advanced academics, small classes (capped at 15 children, only one class per grade), and the children get 30 minutes of recess every day. If the weather doesn't permit it outside, then it's inside the classroom.
"Specials" include Chapel, Spanish, Drama, Music, Computer, and P.E. The students perform plays each year. The Christmas one focuses on Christ's birth.
There is no teaching to a test. Yet every year, third graders and older are tested with the IOWA national test (results include the level of achievement, and how each student ranked nationally for each subject), test at higher levels than grade level.
Our third grade son has been attending since Kindergarten.
Discipline is fair, the same rules apply for everyone. I've not noticed any favoritism towards any student by any teacher or administrator.
More details on academics: children are taught reading with using phonics; math using efficient "traditional" methods (not the "new math" taught in public schools), and begin learning cursive in second grade (not taught in public schools). There is homework almost every night.
Beginning in Third Grade, students use iPads with their curriculum and bring them home to complete homework assignments.Added January 01, 2017 by Ann Sawyer
